How to Find an Art Residency
First, there are many types of residencies that can last from two weeks to three months or even longer. Some you will need to pay for the entire residency which in most cases will include a studio and a place to sleep and cook….others will include meals. Some residencies will give you a grant, which might cover the cost of the studio, or meals, or lodgings…or all three. Some residencies are juried which means you may or may not be accepted to attend.
I find it best for beginners to look for a two week residency so you can ‘get your feet wet.’ As a month might seem daunting to some people. A great place to look for residencies is:
If you’re looking for a great ‘starter’ residency, I’d suggest: https://missa.ca/ This is a 10 day residency in Metchosin, BC (near Victoria)…the surroundings are fabulous, the food is delicious, and they provide a studio and lodgings. You will pay for the entire residency, but this one is worthwhile 😊
